Mulenga counsels traders on garbage

- By ROGERS KALERO

KALULUSHI member of Parliament Kampamba Mulenga has advised marketeers and vendors to dispose of garbage at designated dumpsites for easier collection by the local authority.

Ms Mulenga said no one should dump garbage in drainages and sewer lines to prevent them from blocking.

The MP, who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister, said this when she officially launched the cleaning exercise in Kalulushi initiated by Patriotic Front (PF) youths and supported by Lunga Resources Limited at Luato market.

Lunga Resources Limited contributed four trucks, one loader and K120, 000 cash for the cleaning exercise, which started on Saturday.

Ms. Mulenga said she was grateful that marketeers at Luato market had been responsible by cleaning the market surroundings from the time cholera broke out in Lusaka.

“As residents of Kalulushi, we should be proud of ourselves that we have maintained hygiene from the time cholera was reported to have broken out in Lusaka. We should be proud that Kalulushi has not recorded a case of cholera.

“So, going forward, let us continue to be responsible by throwing garbage at designated dumpsites. Don't throw garbage in drainage systems or sewer lines because if these systems are blocked, they can lead to cholera outbreak,” Ms. Mulenga said.

And PF Buntungwa ward youth secretary Sunday Kaluba said politicians who wanted to politicize the cholera outbreak and criticize government's ban of street vending were irresponsible and careless.
