I’m too political for LAZ – Tutwa

LAZ needs neutral leadership

- By AARON CHIYANZO

I AM too politically inclined to be at the helm of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and would make a bad president. The association needs neutral people to run it for all of us, says Lusaka lawyer Tutwa Ngulube.

The association is scheduled to hold its conference this April, at which it is expected to elect a new leadership for this year.

Several lawyers, including Kabwe Central PF Member of Parliament, Tutwa Ngulube, have been opposed to the alleged biased style of leadership by the current LAZ executive.

And Mr Ngulube recently said that he was overjoyed that the political stature the association had been subjected to in the preceding year was coming to an end.

Asked whether he was look- ing forward to being at the helm of LAZ, Mr Ngulube said that he was too politically inclined to run the association.

He reiterated that the association needed neutral people to save it from the embarrassment it had been exposed to by the current leadership.

Mr Ngulube said that he had no ambitions for the LAZ presidency yet and was comfortable being a politician, serving the people of Kabwe Central constituency.

“The association needs neutral people to run it for all of us. As a politically inclined lawyer, I would make a bad LAZ president. No ambitions, not yet. I am comfortable serving the people of Kabwe,” Mr Ngulube said.

Last year, another Lawyer, Kelvin Bwalya Fube, moved a motion to impeach current LAZ president Linda Kasonde through a vote of no confidence.

Mr Fube, popularly known as KBF, said that the move was aimed at keeping lawyers united as the association was perceived to have been turned into a mouthpiece for the opposition.
