School’s firewood stove shocks President

- By ANNIE ZULU in Chama

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was yesterday not just shocked but openly expressed his anger when he found out that Chama Boarding Secondary School uses firewood to cook food for pupils.

The President who arrived at the school at 11:00 hours and decided to inspect the kitchen could not believe that the school uses firewood to power its kitchen.

“Using firewood is primitive. In this time and age when we are talking about climate change, we can not be cutting down trees indiscriminately,” President Lungu said.

He immediately said that he would leave hard cash with the school authorities so that the transformer can be upgraded to make power available.

“We will not accept business as usual. If I had not requested to see this place, you would have hidden this from me. Pull up your socks and I will come back here around June or July,” President Lungu said.

President Lungu later met seven chiefs. The chiefs he met and conferred with are Chikwa, Chibale, Mulilo, Chifunda, Tembwe and Lundu.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, Chief Lundu asked President Lungu to consider making e-voucher a continuous process, so that farmers can register at any point of the season. Chief Lundu said President Lungu’s visit in Chama is a sign of love and care for the people.

“We are so happy that you have visited us. Your visit is evidence of your love and care for us. We appeal to you to create another district out of Chama,” Chief Lundu said.

The chief said President Lungu is actualising the PF manifesto by continuing from where Mr Sata left.

Mr. Lungu said he visited the Province not to receive praises from the Chiefs, but to be told where Mr Sata left.

Mr. Lungu said he visited the Province not to receive praises from the Chiefs, but to be told where and how he is going wrong in running the country.

“I have come to hear bad news not to be praised. Tell us where we are going wrong or where we are failing,” he said.

Later, President Lungu addressed a rally at Chama market where hundreds of people turned out.
