WE CAN’T BE UPND COPYCATS, SAYS NDC

Their policies aimed at enriching themselves

- By AARON CHIYANZO

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) policies are nothing to compare with those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which are pro poor, NDC spokesperson Erick Chanda has claimed.

Mr Chanda said that NDC would never follow into the footsteps of the UPND.

He explained that the policies of the NDC were pro-poor in nature and meant to serve the poor Zambians, compared to those of the UPND or any other political party.

The NDC spokesperson claimed that while policies of other political parties were aimed at enriching its leaders, NDC was there to enrich the poor.

Mr Chanda was reacting to sentiments that the UPND and NDC were birds of the same feather, and that NDC was a true copycat of the UPND.

“NDC cannot follow in the footsteps of UPND let alone have the same agenda with UPND. Some people have ears but cannot hear, some people have eyes but cannot see. If you look at the policies of the NDC, they are pro-poor in nature,” he said.

Mr Chanda emphasised that NDC had come to improve the lives of the poor people of Zambia, so that they could have a sense of belonging.

He outlined a number of policies, such as restricting imports, promoting value addition and broadening the manufacturing base among others, which he claimed other parties had missed out on.

“These are some of the ideas which NDC is bringing to the Zambian political scene. And this only shows you that our agenda as NDC is different from any political party, including the UPND,” said Mr Chanda.

Mr Chanda insisted that the policies of several political parties were centred on fattening the pockets of their leaders.
