Poor road condition irks traditional leader

- By MARTIN AKENDE

Senior Chief Mwenichifungwa of the Lambya Speaking of Thendele in Mafinga District of Muchinga Province has bemoaned the poor state of the Isoka Mafinga Road that was commissioned during the MMD government of Rupiah Banda.

Speaking when Mafinga Constituency Member of Parliament Jacob Siwale paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Thendele, the chief said the poor state of the Isoka Mafinga road has made life difficult in his Chiefdom as his agriculture reliant people have no access to the main commercial markets where they can sell their products.

He says as a result of the poor road, his chiefdom is losing civil servants who are getting transfers from the district due to poor navigation stating that it is very difficult for teachers and other civil servants to access salaries hence they opt to leave the district.

Chief Mwenichifungwa has since implored President Edgar Lungu to consider working on and completing the road to foster development in the area.

Meanwhile area MP, Jacob Siwale has reassured the traditional leader that the PF government is working behind the clock to ensure that the road which was upgraded to bituminous standard was almost half way done and would be completed this year adding that government has already set aside funds in the 2018 national budget.

Mr Siwale said such things as the poor state of the main Isoka Muyombe road are the reasons why the head of state, President Edgar Lungu had decided to visit Mafinga District and constituency on his three day working visit to Muchinga Province.

Mr Siwale has also asked the traditional leader to bear with government on the failure of the E-voucher system in his un electrified district and constituency which is one of the areas that has suffered setbacks with most farmers failing to receive their farming inputs.
