ZANACO loan supervisor denies K800, 000 theft

A 28-YEAR-OLD loan supervisor of Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) has pleaded not guilty to theft of over K800, 000.

When the matter came up for plea before magistrate Greenwell Malumani, Gerald Kamuti, a resident of Obama area pleaded not guilty to all the 54 counts involving fraudulent false accounting, money laundering and theft by servant.

It is alleged that Kamuti on dates unknown but between February 1st 2014 and August 30th 2016, did steal over K800, 000 through different transactio­ns contrary to the laws of Zambia.

The matter was adjourned to March 13th 2018 for commenceme­nt of trial.

Meanwhile, three men, one of them, a truck driver pleaded not guilty to five counts of forgery and theft of goods in transit.

In count one, it is alleged that Rajabu Shabani Matiwili and David Tembo (ages unknown), on April 3rd 2017 in Lusaka, with intent to defraud or deceive, jointly whilst acting together with other persons unknown, did make a false document namely TAZAMA petroleum products, products receipt No. 05608 purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by authorized signatorie­s at TAZAMA Lusaka when in fact not.

In the second count, Matiwili and Tembo on the same dates in Lusaka, with intent to defraud and deceive, jointly whilst acting together with other persons unknown, did make a false document namely SIS Inspection Zambia Truck Sounding Report purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by authorized signatorie­s at SIS Inspection­s when in fact not. In count three, the two accused on the same dates in Lusaka, jointly whilst acting together with other persons unknown, did make a false document namely, SGS Petroleum Product Inspection Report No. 108580 purporting to show that it was genuinely issued and signed by authorized signatorie­s at SGS when in fact not.

In the fourth count, it is alleged that the two accused persons on the same dates in Lusaka, jointly whilst acting together with other persons unknown, did steal 40,000 litres of petrol valued at K500,000 from a truck registrati­on number T578 DCY and trailer number T318 DCP goods in transit from Dar-es-Salaam to Lusaka the property of Unifreight (T) Ltd.

And in the fifth count, Austern Mutanda on the same dates in Ndola, allegedly did receive 40, 000 litres of petrol valued at K500, 000, knowing or having reason to believe the same to have been feloniousl­y stolen from Unifreight (T) Ltd.
