Night club noise pollution irritates residents

SEVERAL residents of Olympia area in Lusaka have complained of noise pollution emanating from a social night club during night time.

The residents are also uncomfortable with the disorganised parking of vehicles in front of their gates by clients of the named night club due to lack of parking space.

One of the residents, John Bwalya, complained that apart from the noise, customers’ vehicles park in front of their gates thereby blocking their entrance and exit.

Mr Bwalya said the noise from the lavish club which was located in the residential area was giving residents sleepless nights.

Another resident who preferred to remain anonymous urged the Lusaka City Council to visit the premises and verify the club’s legal status in the area.

A check by the Daily Nation at the weekend found several vehicles parked in front of residents’ gates.

“The problem is that as it gets late the noise also gets louder and the other issue is that there is not enough parking space for customers hence they park in front of our gates which is an inconvenience especially in case of an emergency,” Mr Bwalya complained.

And Patriotic Front Mulungushi ward 18 councillor, Douglas Tembo acknowledged receiving similar complaints from some residents in the area.

Mr Tembo said owners of the premises would soon be summoned by the LCC to exculpate themselves and give a reason why the place should not be closed following failure to adhere to measures on noise pollution.

Mr Tembo said the LCC health department had also been informed of the matter and he expressed hope that the situation would soon be resolved.
