Ex-minister Kafwaya cheats death
FORMER North Western Province Minister Dawson Kafwaya is battling for his life at Solwezi General Hospital after he was involved in a road traffic accident.
North Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed the accident in a statement yesterday.
Mr Daka said the accident happened on Sunday around 23:20 hours about 10km east of Solwezi on the Solwezi Chingola road.
He said the vehicle registration number ALX 4876 was being driven by Smart Kafwaya of Saviye area in Solwezi.
The accident happened after Mr Kafwaya failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road and rolled several times.
He said Mr Kafwaya, also former Member of Parliament for Solwezi, sustained a deep cut on the forehead, cuts on the nose, upper lip and right fingers.
He said another passenger only identified as Luwaisha sustained a suspected spinal injury and died upon arrival at Solwezi General Hospital.
“Others were Shila Manda aged 21 of Mitec area who sustained a swollen forehead and Melody Shamambo, of Cheshire Homes who sustained a bruise in the face,” he said.
He said the driver sustained bruises on his right hand.
He said all victims had been admitted at Solwezi General Hospital while the body of the deceased is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem.
