10 SCHOOLS UPGRADED IN KALUMBILA

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

GOVERNMENT through the Ministry of General Education has upgraded 10 primary schools into fully fledged secondary schools in Kalumbila district. Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, District Education Standards Officer Collins Monde said of the 10, 2 have had their infrastructure improved with the construction of classroom blocks.

He said government released funds for infrastructure improvement at the 2 schools namely Mwajimambwe and Mukumbi because they were the first ones to be upgraded.

He said that every year schools were being upgraded because there was serious demand for secondary schools in the district.

‘’Yes, as a district we have upgraded 10 primary schools into secondary and of the 10, 2 have received infrastructure improvement by constructing at least a 1x3 classroom block and staff house,’’ Mr Monde said.

Named the upgraded schools as Kisasa, Lwanvundu, Mumena, Mukumbi, Mwajimambwe, Maheba B, Chovwe and Matebo.

‘’All in all in the district we have about 13 secondary schools in the district including the old secondary schools,’’ he said.

He also said during the recent teacher recruitment exercise, the district received 13 teachers of this figure, 8 were secondary school teachers while 3 were early childhood education teachers.

He said this section had a very big shortage because there are about 62 primary schools including 19 community schools in the district.

‘’And so you find that some schools especially those in outlying areas there are only 1 or 2 teachers. We only have good staffing levels along the main road,’’ he said.
