Chief allocates land for market, praised

- By PETER MALASHA

MKUSHI south Member of Parliament (MP) Davies Chisopa has hailed Chief Chikupili for allocating land to traders in Luano District.

Mr. Chisopa commended the Chief when he addressed traders at Masansa market who had been removed from the streets and relocated to the designated trading centre.

Mr. Chisopa said Chief Chikupili had demonstrated good leadership to both government and his subjects which will go a long way in promoting sanity in the area.

“As government we thank Chief Chikupili for giving land to the local authority for construction of a market structure. Onus is now on the government to erect the market structure for traders to operate in a conducive and clean environment. The move will even enhance the revenue base for the council because it will be collecting tax in a dignified manner.” Mr. Chisopa said.

Mr. Chisopa added that his office would agree with the council either to utilise Constituency Development Fund (CDF) or Equalisation Fund to erect the market structure as well as involvement of the corporate world for the project.

Mr. Chisopa who is former Central Province Minister, told vendors that street vending did not only contribute to uncleanliness but also risked lives of people selling merchandise on the streets.

The Mkushi south law maker further urged vendors not to go back to the streets but to conduct their businesses at designated selling points as government was planning the construction of the market shelter.
