Kabwe hospice grapples with challenges
MOTHER Teresa Hospice of Kabwe faces a challenge in caring for increasing number of orphans, the sick and vulnerable at the institution.
Mother Teresa of Culcatta Missionaries of Charity representative, Sister Mary Henriette says the hospice faces a challenge in caring for 65 orphans and over 115 male and female patients.
Speaking when area Member of Parliament (MP) Tutwa Ngulube donated sanitation materials to the hospice, Sister Mary said the institution was overwhelmed in supporting the orphans, sick vulnerable and as a result, was unable to care for them effectively.
She said the hospice also had a community school that catered for the vulnerable around the community and that the school goes up to grade four with pupils getting integrated in government schools at later stage. “We have a home for orphaned children, patients and a community school that goes up to grade four for the vulnerable around this community. So we have many poor people to support and this is a challenge," said Sister Mary.
She commanded Mr Ngulube for the donation which she said would go a long way in improving sanitary and hygiene conditions at the hospice especially with the cholera outbreak.
One of the patients Gideon Banda also commanded the Kabwe Central MP for coming to the aid of staff at the hospice whom he said were doing everything possible in caring for the sick, orphans and the vulnerable.
And Mr Ngulube commended staff at the institution for taking care of the vulnerable in society.
He assured of government's support to the hospice so that it can carry out its mission of caring for the sick and orphans in society.
