Police nab 6 notorious criminals

POLICE in Solwezi have arrested 6 notorious criminals behind burglaries in the district.

Meanwhile, police have recovered assorted items valued at K125, 420 following the arrest of the criminals.

North western province Commission­er of Police Auxensio Daka said on 15th January, a house in Hospital compound was broken into by unknown persons.

He said an informer tipped the police and a follow up was made that resulted in the arrest of one suspect, William Jato, 21 of Kawama compound.

He said upon interviewi­ng the suspect, he led police to five other suspects whose names are Mulenga Mulonga aged 28, Pephias Chizau aged 26 both of Kawama, Henry Mwanamoya aged 27 of Kazomba compound, Joseph Masumba aged 27 and Morgan Kanda aged 24 of Zambia compound.

‘’All the 6 suspects have been arrested and interviewe­d, and we have had massive recoveries of goods,’’ Mr Daka said.

He said the suspects have been charged for the offences of burglary and theft, house breaking and theft, and breaking into a building.

He said the total value of property stolen by the 6 suspects was K125, 420.

‘’And what has been recovered so far is worth K85, 298. I further wish to state that some of the recovered property has not yet been identified while others have been identified. I therefore invite members of the public who have lost property in similar to come forth to the police station to identify their properties,’’ he said.

He warned members of the public to desist from buying goods from unlicensed dealers.

Among the items that have been recovered include, television sets, computers, amplifiers, bicycles, home theatres among others.
