THE cholera situation in Central Province is under control as the figures don't seem to be escalating, says provincial minister, Sydney Mushanga.

Mr Mushanga said a lot of intervention to contain the epidemic have been put in place by the medical office and the council in the province.

He said the province has done well in containing cholera with four deaths out of the 76 cases recorded as of 2nd January, 2018 and the figures has not increased since the last case was recorded.

"The cholera situation is under control. Figures are not escalating from the affected districts of Kabwe, Chibombo, Chisamba, Mumbwa, ,Luano and Serenje,

"We have recorded 76 cumulative cases, 66 discharges and 4 deaths in the province as of 2nd January, 2018," said Mr Mushanga.

And the Provincial minister has said the removal of street vendors from the central business district (CBD) is one of the measures that are being put in place to assist in curbing cholera. Mr Mushanga has since warned vendors that are contemplating going back on the street that the law would visit them if found wanting.

He has appealed to the council and security wings to continue monitoring the situation to ensure that vendors are kept from the CBD.

Mr Mushanga has also urged councils in the province to intensify garbage collection in the CBD saying it was their responsibility to ensure refuse is well disposed off.
