Suspected Congolese criminal shot dead

By ROGERS KALERO POLICE in Chililabom­bwe have shot dead a suspected Congolese criminal after an exchange of fire in Minestone area of Chililabom­bwe district.

Copperbelt Police Chief Char- ity Katanga confirmed the incident which happened on Saturday when police officers were carrying out patrols in the area.

Ms Katanga said suspected Congolese criminals were planning to stage a robbery in Minestone area when police officers on patrol ambushed them and shot dead one of them after they had earlier fired at the police officers.

"When these suspected Congolese criminals were ambushed, they fired at the police officers and in return the police fired back killing one of them who had an AK47 rifle. One of the criminals managed to get the fire arm from the one who was shot.

"So I can confirm that police in Chililabom­bwe on Saturday shot dead a suspected Congolese criminal after an exchange of fire in Minestone area of Chililabom­bwe district. His body is lying in Kakoso hospital,'' Ms Katanga said.

Ms Katanga said police officers recovered a knife, torch and Techno phone from the dead criminal.

The Copperbelt Police Chief said following the increased rate of aggravated robberies in Chililabom­bwe, police in the area have intensifie­d patrols to wipe out criminals who want to be terrorizin­g residents.

She also said residents in the area should also support the efforts of the police by reporting suspicious looking people in the area so that they can face the law.

"As police in Chililabom­bwe, we have resolved to wipe out criminals in the area who have been terrorizin­g residents in the area, but then, residents should not harbour criminals, but report them to police so that they can be dealt with," she said.
