Hichilema is too arrogant to work with someone as ambitious as Chishimba Kambwili who also wants to be president and not be led, says former United Party for National Development presidential spokesperson, Edward Mumbi.

Mr Mumbi said there was no room for the Roan Member of Parliament in UPND and calls for an alliance between the party and National Democratic Congress (NDC) were mere mockery because the two men were both arrogant and over ambitious.

Mr Mumbi told the Daily Nation in an interview that an over ambitious Kambwilli could not be accepted in the UPND even when the two parties tried to enter into an alliance because he would be a big threat to the presidential ambitions of Mr Hichilema.

He said Mr Hichilema was the sole owner and candidate for the UPND and could not welcome such pacts which might threaten his hold on the party.

He said there was no possibility of the two politicians cooperating as they were only in politics to satisfy their big egos.

Mr Mumbi said the only thing the UPND and NDC parties had in common was that they both were tribal and as such the two groups could not merge.

“People should just save their breath, talk about a UPND and NDC alliance is not possible. These two groups cannot meet, they are poles apart and their leaders have similar traits of arrogance and lack of humility,” Mr Mumbi said.

Mr Mumbi said the proposed alliance was impossible as the two political parties were founded on tribal principles.

“It is clear that the NDC was founded on Bemba principle while the UPND was founded on a Tonga principle so the two parties cannot meet,” he said.

He said the Patriotic Front under late President Michael Sata attempted to engage the UPND but the attempt was a complete failure due to the nature of the UPND and its leaders’ arrogance.

Meanwhile NDC has rejected overtures to go into an alliance with the UPND, saying it was too early.

Mr Musenge told the Daily Nation in a telephone interview that as much as the NDC appreciated the proposal and gesture by the UPND, the party was still in its infancy and that it was still preoccupied with mobilisation.

UPND deputy secretary general, Patrick Mucheleka had over the weekend invited the NDC to join forces with them to fight the PF.
