KALABA ADMITS PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION

- By VIOLET TEMBO

THERE is nothing wrong for me to have Presidential ambitions, former Foreign Affairs minister Harry Kalaba has said.

Speaking to journalists in Lufwanyama yesterday, Mr. Kalaba said he was enjoying the constitutional protection of being a Member of Parliament (MP) to speak his mind.

He could however not state if he was forming a political party.

“We will cross the bridge when we get there. Right now I am an MP and I cannot discuss formation of a political party when am still under PF. Let those questioning my future speculate, there is nothing wrong with speculation,” Mr. Kalaba said.

The Bahati MP said he was relying on posterity to judge his revelation of corruption in government. “I left government on grounds of corruption and only time will vindicate me whether I am just using it as gimmick or it is not there. I do not want to point fingers now because I do not want to be a player and referee at the same time,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kalaba said the people of Zambia were tired of the current political landscape. He advised that politicians in the country should concentrate on bringing development, adding that Zambians needed politicians to address issues that concerned them. “The time for politics to work for the electorates has come. The time to work for politicians must cease. Zambians are tired of politics and I think the kind of politics which we should concentrate on is to bring development. Let’s not do too much of politics,” he said.

Mr. Kalaba said he was in Lufwanyama to familiarise himself with the district and visit Catholic priests.
