Zesco name CAF squad

…as Buffaloes leave for Egypt to face Al Masry SC

By MICHAEL MIYOBA ZESCO United coach Tenant Chembo has named an 18 member squad to take on Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi popularly known as JKU FC of Zanzibar in the first leg of the CAF champion’s league preliminar­y fixture this Saturday.

According to the list of the final squad obtained by Daily Nation Sports, Chembo who was maintained as acting head coach following the dismissal of Serbian Zlatko Krymptic, has maintained his faith in first choice goal keeper and captain Jacob Banda.

Banda will lead a team of old and new players such as former under-20 captain Solomon Sakala who joined Zesco United from Napsa Stars.

Sakala will compete in the starting line with defenders such as left back Fackson Kapumbu, Marcel Kalonda, Simon Silwimba, Daut Musekwa and Kenyan internatio­nal David Owino Odyambo. Kondwani Mutonga is expected to lead the midfield consisting of John Chinga'ndu, Mwape Mwelwa, Enoch Sabumukama and former Nkwazi FC player Lameck Banda.

The Zambian champions are seeking to beat their previous record at the tournament after having reached the semis during the 2016 edition.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s representa­tives in the CAF Confederat­ions Cup Green Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda selected an 18 member squad which travelled to Egypt to take on Al Masry SC in the CAF confederat­ions cup preliminar­y fixture to be played on Friday in Egypt.

Buffaloes, the only Zambian team with no foreign players playing continenta­l football has Chipolopol­o striker Friday Samu leading Eddie Sinyangwe and Aubrey Chela in attack.

Midfieders Jackson Chirwa, Lazarous Muchinga, Robert Musonda, Youremembe­r Banda, former chipolopol­o midfielder Felix Katongo, Mike Katiba and Diamond Chikwekwe will compete for the first eleven position in midfield while Malani Gondwe, Emmanuel Museka, Chilimba Moonga, Morgan Kanjola, Adrian Chama and Buchizya Mfuni complete the defenders list.
