City targets trucks for garbage collection

- By KELVIN SIABANA

KITWE City Council plans to buy four tipper trucks to boost its fleet as a way of mitigating challenges of garbage collection

Kitwe City Council (KCC) assistant public relations manager Beauty Undi said when the four tipper trucks are bought the challenges of uncollected garbage in some parts of the city would be a thing of the past.

Ms Undi said KCC was committed to ensuring that it provides good services to the residents and determined to make Kitwe a better and clean city in the nation.

She said collection of garbage in the Central Business District and other places should not only left to the council alone but it should be the responsibility of every individual to ensure that they clean their surroundings for Kitwe to become the cleanest city in Zambia.

She said there is need for the people to change their mind set in the City's residential areas by not throwing litter anyhow.

Ms Undi said the local authority is working hard to ensure the uncollected garbage was moved by the tipper trucks that are currently operating in the city because a clean environment would change the outlook of Kitwe.

"Kitwe is the mining and commercial hub of the country hence the city should be a model of cleanliness to continue attracting investors in various sectors of the economy," said Ms Undi.

She also revealed that the council had bought some tyres from Tyre Kings at a cost of more than K100,000 for the existing tipper trucks involved in garbage collection.
