UPND DENIES BURNING COUNCILOR’S VEHICLE
PEOPLE involved in the burning of former United Party for National Development (UPND) councilor, Eucridy Mwiinga, are mere criminals and not our members, party Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has said.
Mr. Kakoma’s comment comes in the wake of media reports that suspected UPND cadres in Nampundwe on Sunday torched a car belonging to Mr. Mwiinga who recently defected to the Patriotic Front (PF).
Mr. Kakoma said in an inter- view that UPND had nothing to do with the torching of Mr Mwiingas car and those claiming the opposition party was involved were making mere allegations.
He said the UPND did not harbor criminals and condemned the act; and called for investigations in the matter.
“It is an unfortunate development and we would like to call upon the police to make relevant investigations and those involved should be brought to book. We cannot just say it is the UPND who are the perpetrators, when a thief breaks into your house are they labeled as UPND?” Mr Kakoma asked.
He said it was the police’s role to investigate such matters to avoid similar speculations.
Mr. Kakoma said the incident should be treated as a mere a criminal matter.
And Lusaka province commissioner of police Nelson Phiri said investigations into the matter had been instituted.
Mr. Phiri said police had not yet made any arrest but would inform the public once investigations were concluded.
