LUNGU’S OLIVE BRANCH TO OPPOSITION MPS TIMELY- NORTHWEST ELDERS
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI PRESIDENT Lungu’s call on all MPs irrespective of their political affiliation to feel free to engage him on matters of national development is timely, the North Western Development Council of Elders has said.
Organisation chairperson, Lucas Chikoti told the Daily Nation in an interview that the move was timely so that development can be realised in their various constituencies.
“The President was right because our opposition MPs need to be seen to be working and that can only happen when they work and engage government,’’ Mr Chikoti said.
He said Members of Parliament need to serve the people who elected them by ensuring that they lobby for development.
He also condemned the opposition parliamentarians for shunning public functions saying the move is detrimental to development.
“They need to continuously interact and engage those in public offices for the benefit of the people that voted for them,’’ he added.
And Mr Chikoti has appealed to young people in the province to take advantage of the various programmes government has put in place to empower themselves.
He said young people should not only wait and depend on formal employment but engage themselves in various activities that result in them employing their fellow youths.
