TASILA LUNGU VISITS FLASH FLOOD VICTIMS

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Nkoloma ward one councillor, Tasila Lungu at the weekend took time to visit residents in Lusaka’s Chawama Compound whose houses have not been spared by flash floods following heavy rains.

Ms Lungu was in the accompany of officials from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to access the impact of the situation on the ground and how the affected families could be assisted.

Ms Lungu through her face book posting, pledged to deliver and fulfill her campaign promise by taking developmen­t to the people as well as helping the needy.

She however stated that she will continue engaging the community in issues affecting them such as floods, outbreak of cholera among other issues.

“Over the weekend I have had the opportunit­y to spend time with the residents of Nkoloma Ward One in Chawama where some homes have been affected by the continuous rains we have received over the last few days and the tour was conducted in conjuction with the DMMU and the overall objective was to assess the impact on the ground and how we can best support the families requiring relief support,” said Ms Lungu.

Ms Lungu commended the community of Nkoloma ward for their commitment through the community-wide response she embarked upon such as the clean-up of her ward in addition to other wards in the constituen­cy.

Ms Lungu said the initiative was important to reduce the burden of disease afflicting the people, particular­ly children who were the most vulnerable.

“The support of the local community has been essential to me and I ‘am thankful for your encouragem­ent and this will remain an on-going exercise, therefore I look forward to continuing this hard work and implementi­ng the important developmen­tal and community projects we have already embarked on in 2018“, she said.
