Kansanshi mining plc extends hand to education sector

- By MARTIN MUSUNKA

ESSENTIAL values being derived from quality education in Solwezi and surrounding areas have been eased by major contributions being made to the education sector by Kansanshi Mining Plc, North Western Province Minister, Richard Kapita has said.

Speaking when Kansanshi Mining Plc handed over 26,560 textbooks worth K1, 230,000 in Solwezi yesterday, Mr Kapita said government was indebted to the mining company for being a consistent partner in the provision of quality education.

He said the various forms of support that Kansanshi Mine kept providing to the local communities demonstrated that the mining company was an invaluable corporate entity in Solwezi.

“We have heard the milestone number of books that Kansanshi is handing over to Government today. We have also heard the total number of books the company has contributed to primary education in Solwezi since 2013 when they began their current form of support to the sector. I do not know of any partner who has contributed as much to education in Solwezi,” Mr Kapita said.

The provincial minister reminded management officials from all the beneficiary schools and the district education management that Kansanshi Mine’s acts of corporate citizenship demanded reciprocal care and public-spiritedness.

He called on officials to devise systems of resource allocation and management that would ensure the retention and effective use of the donated textbooks adding that “failure to do this is simply a dereliction of duty for which you should be called to account.”

And Kansanshi Mining Plc Public Relations Manager, Godfrey Msiska said through the Kansanshi Education Quality Improvement Programme the mining company always sought to improve the quality of education in its host community of Solwezi. He said the handing over of the textbooks was the largest number of books ever donated and explained that the increase was motivated by the belief that the children in schools supported by Kansanshi Mine deserved the best education possible and would strive to make this dream come true.– Story courtesy of SUMA SYSTEMS.
