Take ownership of 7NDP, Zambians told

- By MAILESI BANDA

THE Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC), has appealed to Zambians to take ownership of the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) and contribute towards the attainment of being a developed middleincome nation by 2030.

PMRC executive director, Benedette Deka said Zambians had a critical role of mindset shift towards the implementation of the 7NDP to support the development of the economy.

Ms. Deka said the aim of involving locals in the sanitisation is to ensure that majority of the citizenry reach a level of sharing the same concept and idea about the development path and approaches.

She noted that this would promote a coordinated approach to development.

“Our main recommendation in the attainment of the 7NDP is that there is need to promote patriotism and above all a positive Zambian Identity and positive attitude towards the Development among citizens,” she said.

She explained that in view of the Seventh National Development Plan Implementation, PMRC had produced a publication titled: “Towards Successful Implementation of the Seventh National Development Plan – with a focus on mindset shift”.

She said the publication promotes the embracing of national ethics and mindset shift towards a positive Zambian Identity adding that the categorisation of citizens in this case implies firstly with the actual implementers of the plan and spreads to the rest of the citizenry to promote coordinated and multi sectorial approach to development.

“In our report we also highlight some of the factors that impeded the implementation of the previous Sixth National Development Plan and Revised Sixth National Development Plan.

“The aim is to create awareness and ensure that during this implementation of the 7NDP, we don’t face the same challenges. On the government side, we highlight key reforms that need to be undertaken to ensure accurate implementation of the 7NDP; such as decentralisation reforms, public finance reforms, and public service management reforms among others,“she said.
