Let’s fight tribalism together- Lungu

LET us together as a country put our heads together and find ways to overcome tribalism because many people have suffered as a result of the scourge, says President Edgar Lungu.

And President Lungu announced that the printing of ballot papers for the 2021 general elections would be done locally by Government Printer.

He called on stakeholders with fears about printing ballot papers locally to engage government and see how best challenges could be addressed.

President Lungu reiterated that there was need to find a lasting solution to tribalism as it had affected too many people, not only politicians.

He said this yesterday at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) on arrival from Rwanda where he had gone on a two day working visit.

“Let us put our heads together and see how best we can overcome tribalism. I know that a lot of people from Southern Province are suffering on the account of that. Innocent people have been victimised because they come from the south. And some people from the north and east have also suffered,” he said.

President Lungu emphasised the need to get rid of tribalism because it had become a menace to the nation.

He stressed the need to adopt from those who have suffered as a result of tribalism and draw lessons from that.

President Lungu pointed out that individuals from both the ruling party and the opposition, including those nonpartisan had suffered as a result of their tribe.

Meanwhile, President Lungu said that ballot papers for the 2021 general elections would be printed locally by the Government Printer.

He said that he would continue directing the Ministry of Finance to be releasing money to improve government printers department.

The President called on stakeholders with challenges about this decision to engage government and see how best they could be addressed.
