Utility firm restores water supply in Chavuma
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE North Western Water Supply and Sewerage Company has restored water supply in Chavuma.
This follows the move by Lumwana Mining Company to donate a water pump to the utility company to address water challenges the district had been experiencing.
Chavuma District Commissioner, Benjamin Mufunga, confirmed the development to the Daily Nation yesterday.
Mr. Mufunga said the water utility firm restored water after the district experienced erratic water supply for about three weeks following a breaking down of the pump at the main water plant.
“I can now confirm that water challenges are now a thing of the past after the utility company installed a new pump which was donated by Lumwana Mine last week,’’ Mr Mufunga said.
He said residents risked their lives to draw water in the crocodile-infested Zambezi River after the water pump broke down. The District Commissioner has commended the water utility company for working tirelessly to ensure that water was restored in the district.
He disclosed that a team of officers from the utility company spent two days to install the new water pump to replace the old one.
‘’Now, this is a temporal measure because a new pump to be installed permanently will only be connected after water levels go down in Zambezi River,’’ he added.
