PROBE FINANCE SABOTAGE

… the ministry is very sensitive and should not be toyed with.

OPPOSITION leaders have demanded investigations into the suspected sabotage at the Ministry of Finance following the questionable collapse of its central computing system which manages and processes all Government payments.

The opposition parties stated that mere suspicions that the system may have been sabotaged by individuals who are trying to conceal information implicating them should call for action.

It is feared that the system, known as the Integrated Financial Management Information system (IFMIS), which was implemented by Government and facilitated by Smart Zambia in 2015, could have implicated those who had been cited in the Auditor General’s report as having misappropriated or misapplied Government resources

Both New Congress Party (NPC) president, Peter Chanda and 3rd Liberation Movement’s Enock Tonga called on investigative wings to probe the matter.

The opposition leaders stressed the need to investigate the cause and ensure that culprits were brought to book.

Mr Chanda said that his party was aware of some individuals within the system with nothing but an agenda to sabotage the smooth running of government.

“They are those people that are simply enemies, their role is to diminish progress and the slides of development of this current government that they are under taking and it is therefore an eye-opener all of us,” he said.

Mr Chanda explained that this disclosure was an eye-opener to the fact that many of the things which were blamed on the head of state where actually as a result of some ill-minded elements within the system.

He said that investigative wings should get to the root of the matter and ensure that sanity was restored in the management of national resources.

Meanwhile, Mr Tonga called upon the new minister of finance and her team to ensure security measures were put in place to curb such vices.

He said that the Ministry of Finance was very sensitive and should not be toyed with as it was the heart of the nation.
