Let’s twin C/belt and DRC province - Mwakalombe

THERE is need to twin Copperbelt Province with another province from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to promote Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), says Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe.

Speaking when Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo officially handed over duties to him (Mr Mwakalombe) as Copperbelt provincial minister, Mr Mwakalombe noted that the Copperbelt Province was well placed as a conduit for larger markets in the neighbouring DRC.

Mr. Mwakalombe noted that there was need to strategise and position districts on the Copperbelt by looking at their comparative strengths because that was where it drew its strengths to promote the nation's FDI.

He directed technocrats from the provincial administration to profile the province in order to position it as a preferred destination for FDI).

"The Copperbelt Province is an engine for development in our economy because of its many mining and agricultural activities," said Mr Mwakalombe

Meanwhile Copperbelt Permanent Secretary, Bright Nundwe called for intensified coordination among the technocrats and the new Minister who was recently swapped with Mr Lusambo in a cabinet reshuffle by President Lungu.

Mr. Nundwe said unity of purpose was of great significance in attaining quality economic development on the Copperbelt .
