Mpongwe DC outlines youth projects
INFRASTRUCTURE development in Mpongwe aimed at improving the face of the district at a cost of K35 million has reached an advanced staged, says Mpongwe District Commissioner (DC) Keith Maila.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Maila said the Copperbelt provincial district did not see much development in terms of infrastructure from the time it was declared a district in 1997.
Mr Maila explained that previously the district faced numerous challenges among them lack of housing units for civil servants with most workers commuting from Ndola, Kitwe and Luanshya.
He said under the Patriotic Front (PF) government of President Edgar Lungu, the district has had seen a number of development projects among them construction of 42 housing units for government workers.
“We are also building a new district administration block because the one we are using now cannot accommodate all the departments but the one under construction will accommodate all the departments,” said Mr Maila.
Mr Maila also explained that the district would soon have a new police station which was under construction with upgrade of some schools from primary to secondary level.
“We only had two secondary schools Mpongwe boarding and Mpongwe day secondary school that could not cater for all the pupils so as government we decided to upgrade two more schools,” Mr Maila said.
