Circuit City win Africabet Chawama tourney
By MICHAEL MIYOBA FAZ division one outfit, Circuit City Football Club, has been crowned 2017/2018 Africabet Chawama off season soccer tournament champions after beating Jack United 2-1 in the final played at Chawama grounds in Lusaka.
City striker Kennedy Mukasu put his team ahead in the first half of the game through a superb header before Christopher Zulu levelled the scores with a low shot on target.
Dennis Phiri scored the winning goal for City to collect the K20,000 prize money while the runners up, Jack United, walked away with K15, 000 and a certificate of participation.
Chawama Sports Integration secretary Conwell Mwakoi commended City for winning the tournament held under the theme “Health starts with you.”
Mwakoi noted that it was not easy for City to win the championship as they had to battle with 36 teams which participated in this year’s tournament.
Mwakoi acknowledged tournaments sponsors Africabet Zambia and government for supporting the development of footballers in Chawama.
And Africa Bet director Enock Simukonde added that his company will continue to sponsor the Africabet Chawa- ma off season tournament as it contributes massively to the development of footballers in communities.
Simukonde noted that Africabet was committed to giving back to the community through the various promotions offered to customers.
He disclosed that one person will be sponsored to travel to Spain to watch the Laliga match between Barcelona and Real Madrid dubbed the El-Classical.
“I just want to thank the community for their commitment towards the hosting of this big community tournament in Zambia. Congratulations to the winners Circuit City. As Africa Bet we will continue to sponsor this tournament which contributes to the development of soccer in Zambia,” Simukonde said.
Meanwhile, Chawama Ward two councillor, Leonard Sikombe said that government recognise the crucial rule the Africabet Chawama off season tournament play.
Sikombe who was guest of honor at the tournament commended Africa Bet Zambia and Chawama sports integration and urged them to continue organising such events as they produce footballers who have represented Zambia at the highest level.
