PF die hard takes swipe at opposition

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

SOME opposition political parties are entrenching dictatorial tendencies by holding on to leadership positions through the shunning of party conventions and elective conferences, says Patriotic Front (PF) die hard supporter, McFallen Ndhlovu.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Ndhlovu said it was unfortunate that opposition parties were deliberately not providing checks and balances but wished for the government to fail.

He added that the Zambian people were able to see the opposition party’s bitterness and egoistic alternative type of governance.

Mr Ndhlovu commended President Edgar Lungu for bringing a contemporary system of governance aimed at embracing all citizens despite their party affiliation.

“Today, we have opposition political parties who do not provide checks and balances, but wish the current Government failed so that they could form Government. However, the people of Zambia are able to see their bitterness and their egoistic alternative type of governance,” he said.

And Youth Aid Chairperson, Chungu Kachenga, has advised political parties to be democratic and elect their officials and leaders in a democratic manner through party conventions to stop bickering.

Mr Kachenga charged that the current crop of leaders in some political parties lacked tenets of democracy.

The non-governmental organisation noted that the FDD as well as the UPND have not had national conventions for a long time and urged the PF and the UPND to scrutinise their candidates on the party presidential ticket for 2021 in a transparent and democratic manner.
