2 Ugandan ‘witchdoctors’ sued

- By JUSTINA MULENGA

TWO Ugandan men masquerading as witchdoctors have been dragged to court for allegedly swindling a man out of K41, 000 by claiming that they could ‘free’ his manhood as it was ‘seized’ by someone.

The matter came up on Tuesday for continued trial before Magistrate Felix Kaoma.

It is alleged that Kiyimba Ashlae, 26 and Joseph Kaketwa, 24, on August 10th 2017 in Lusaka, jointly whilst acting together with another person unknown did steal K41, 700 cash the property of Maurice Maboshe.

When the matter came up, the first witness, 33-year-old Josephine Nkhoma, a nurse at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) testified before court that the two accused persons were her tenants who left her house without informing her of their whereabouts.

She told the court that a man by the name of Maurice came home looking for the two men who by then had moved out of the house they rented.

She narrated that the man explained to her that the two men were pretending to be witchdoctors without the knowledge of their landlord and swindled him out of K41, 000 when he went to seek medical attention.

“After he told me that, we decided to call them on his mobile phone and one of them answered but later stopped responding, and that is how we went to report the matter to the police,” she said.

And another witness, a police officer at Embassy Police Post, Hope Liyamba 25, testified that she opened a docket in the matter that was reported by a man named Maurice Maboshe.

She said the complainant told Police that the two accused had told him that his manhood had been ‘tied’ by someone and he needed to pay that amount for his healing.

“The complainant explained that he was told to pay that amount of money for them to finish the rituals of his healing, and was also asked to draw wa- ter from the Kafue River or Blue Water in Chawama and buy a black chicken,” she testified.

Liyamba also told the court that the two men ran away from the complainant upon arriving in Chibolya to buy the black chicken after drawing water from Blue water in Chawama.

She further testified that the complainant used another person to call the accused persons in the name of seeking for medical attention from them.

“That was how two of them were apprehended and one ran away to Uganda,” she said.

Liyamba said there was also another lady with the two men who ran away after being given police bond.
