Siavonga DC tackles youth job complaints
GOVERNMENT has summoned all human resource managers from private companies operating in Siavonga to meeting is to resolve complaints that employment opportunities are allegedly being offered to outsiders at the expense of the locals.
The residents, mostly youths from the opposition UPND have vowed to camp at the DC’s office from Monday to pressure Government to interne in the standoff between them and Razel-bec, the French company contracted by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) to rehabilitate the Kariba dam wall plunge pool.
Siavonga District commissioner Lovemore Kanyama disclosed that Government had noted the concerns from the youths and that would on Monday meet all human resource managers from private companies to forge a way forward.
“The Youths’ concerns were taken note of and I have since called for a meeting with all Human Resource managers for companies based in Siavonga to be held in my office on Monday. The agenda for the meeting is to put to an end to the issue of companies employing casual general workers outside of Siavonga.
He commended the youths in the area for engaging his office in the matter.
“The unemployed youths of Siavonga are commended as they are now engaging my office in connection with employment in the district. At no time did the youths of Siavonga take to the streets to protest over employment opportunities as alleged by politicians,” said Mr. Kanyama.
He said his office would ensure that all Siavonga based companies comply with his directive to employ locals for casual work and only be employ outsiders when such skills cannot found within the district.
He said Government was concerned with the plight of youths and had put in place measures to empower the citizens especially youths and women.
