K2.8M KAPIRI MARKET OPENS
By KETRA KALUNGA in KAPIRI
The K2.8 million Tambalale market in Kapiri Mposhi district has been completed and ready for hand over to the town council.
Kapiri Mposhi district commissioner (DC) Peter Mwiinde said the first ever modern market constructed by the ministry of Local Government would accommodate about 300 marketeers in the district that have been trading in open spaces.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Mwiinde said 98 percent of works have been completed with only the installing of taps and water connection remaining after which marketeers would be relocated there.
He said the PF leadership was in a hurry to take development to all parts of the country.
"98 percent of the works have been done at tTambalale, the first ever modern market in Kapiri, what is remaining are the final touches of installing taps for the washing basins for marketeers and water connection," said the DC.
The DC said he has already written to Central Province Permanent Secretary (PS) Chanda Kabwe for the partial opening of the market because of the continuous rains currently being experienced in the country.
Mr Mwiinde said his office was waiting for an answer from the ministry of Local government and the PS to give a directive on the opening of the market.
And Market chairperson, Lyson Milala commended government for putting up a modern market in Kapiri saying it would mitigate the challenge faced by marketeers of trading in a water logged place.
Mr Milala said the market would also add beauty to the central business district (CBD) once marketeers who are currently trading in ram shackles are relocated.
"As market committee, we are happy that the first ever modern market in Kapiri has been completed. Our marketeers will no longer trade in ram shackles located in a water logged place," said Mr Milala.
