IBA to start collecting TV levy
By MOSES SINJWALA THE Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) will effective April 1 start collecting the television levy through the subscriber management services (SMS), director-general Ms Josephine Mapoma has announced.
Previously the levy which was pegged at K3 and now pegged at K5 was collected through the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO).
The move by the IBA is in accordance with the pronouncement made by then Finance minister Felix Mutati in his 2018 budget presentation.
Ms Mapoma announced that the television levy will now be collected or paid through the subscriber management services which included Multi-Choice, Strong Technologies, Muvi Television, Top Star, Go TV, City Cable Network and Kwese Television.
“The TV levy is at K5 and will be collected through our licenced sms and the amount will be deducted from the subscription payment of the pay per-view television charges,” she said.
“The authority wishes to alert the public that section 8 of the statutory instrument prohibits the licensees from; making false declaration of subscribers , concealing of information relevant to the levy, remitting the levy late, evading or avoiding payments of the levy,” she advised.
Ms Mapoma said households having more than two pay perview decoders will have to pay the levy for both of them.
