Explain US$270m digital migration claims

-

By CHITE MTONGA THE Zambia Union of Financial Workers and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) have backed calls by the National Restoration Party (NAREP) for Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili to explain his involvement in the second phase of the digital migration which cost government $270million.

ZUFIAW secretary general Chingati Msiska told the Daily Nation that Mr Kambwili should be honest enough to inform the Zambian people what transpired when he was Minister of Information and must be willing to testify in the courts of law if the allegations of misappropriation of funds in the ministry were true.

Reacting to NAREP president Elias Chipimo’s called for Mr Kambwili to disclose why phase two of the digital migration cost $273million dollars covering four provinces when phase one cost only $9.6 million covering six provinces, Mr Chingati said Mr Kambwilli should disclose what role he played in the transactions as it was in the best interest of the country.

Mr Chingati said government should find ways of releasing the information as financial prudence was central to national development. He said Mr Kambwili should use the correct processes that were available and reveal to government agencies. “We want Mr Kambwili to tell us what really transpired and we want the truth to come out because as a union we cannot allow such huge sums of money to go unchecked ;we need the facts and it does not matter whether he is in government or not,” he said.
