LUSAKA STUDENT BEATEN, WOUNDED
By KALOBWE BWALYA A 20-year-old student from Eden University in Lusaka was on Sunday wounded and assaulted by a group of five unidentified men in Barlastone area around 21: 00 hours.
Police Spokesperson, Esther Katongo, said the five men were in a motor vehicle, a Toyota Runx, with unknown registration number.
Ms Katongo explained that one of the assailants came out of the car and started hurling insults and indecently assaulted another female student at the same institution.
Ms Katongo said the assailant them grabbed the hand of the victim and in the process injured her using a bottle of beer and she sustained deep cuts, bruises and painful shoulders.
Ms Katongo said one suspect identified as Alfred Chamozi aged 25 of Lusaka West was later apprehended by the public who witnessed the incident while the other four suspects sped off.
She said the suspect is in police custody and investigations have since been instituted with the hope of bringing the other suspects who were on the run to book.
“We received a report of unlawful wounding and indecent assault in which a 20-year-old student at Eden University in Lusaka reported that she had been attacked by a group of five unidentified men in Barlastone area who were in a motor vehicle. “Brief facts are that on March 03rd around 21:00 hours the victim who was in the company of three fellow students had gone to buy some foodstuffs from a nearby shop when the said motor vehicle appeared from behind with five occupants,” said Ms Katongo.
