Desist from politics, cops advised
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI AS loyal police officers you are expected to support government and desist from partisan politics, says North Western Province Permanent Secretary, Ephraim Mateyo.
Speaking during the Police Open Day in Solwezi, Mr Mateyo urged police officers to be neutral in their profession for members of the public to have confidence in them.
“You must be neutral in your work and the way you function otherwise people will not trust and have confidence in you," Mr Mateyo said.
Mr Mateyo also urged the police top command in the province to work with local communities to stop rising burglaries in the region.
He said the police Command in the province should create close ties with the local communities in the fight against crime.
He also reminded police officers to remain loyal and support the government of the day through continued hard work, discipline, dedication to duty and professional conduct.
He assured the command that he will continue presenting their interests and ensure that the working environment was improved.
He said government is aware of the challenges police officers go through in their tour of duty.
And North Western Province Commissioner of Police, Hudson Namachila assured the Permanent Secretary that officers in the province will continue to conduct their of protecting and preserving the infrastructure and economic heritage using a disciplined and well equipped work force.
He said the rich infrastructure, human resource and economic heritage was being threatened by rising crime in form of riots, burglaries, breakings, murder and rape.
"To this end, our dedication to duty is only hampered by poor staffing levels and logistical shortcomings such as transport, funding and modern investigative equipment," he said.
"I further urge to adhere to the cole values of the police service by being professional, pro-activiness accountability in providing service to the people, " Mr Mateyo said.
