CAN HH, GBM LEARN A SMALL LESSON FROM ALIKO DANGOTE

-

Dear Editor,

When I recently read about Mr Aliko Dangote donating N1.2 Billion (about US$3.3 million) to First Business School of Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria my thoughts quickly raced up to our own rich man Hakainde Hichilema.

I thought would our HH, the president of UPND do the same here in Zambia? The questions kept agonising my mind.

Has HH ever made a serious donation to any institution in Zambia?

Has HH donated to the needy from his billions, some of which are safely tucked away in offshore accounts?

The quick answer (I may be wrong) which came to my mind was a big reservation. Other thoughts rolled up still. Could HH be plain niggardly? Or has anyone ever bothered to ask him for help? I know that while a generous person gives freely, often finding giving a pleasurable activity, a stingy person withholds and finds giving hard and uncomfortable. Of course you have once again guessed correctlyI was also tempted to ask about our famed Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba aka GBM because to me he appears NOT to be the giving type. He is certainly good at swanking about his ‘big’ money though.

And now to imagine that HH and GBM are political bed mates, can Zambians expect a helping hand from the two men especially if they formed government in 2021?

If you are in doubt, you may not be alone in that school of thought and may be for good logic. Perhaps it is also much easier to speculate and understand why they would not want to help. They do not have the kind of money Dangote is made of, save for miponto.

Let me get back to this magnificent man Dangote. Immediately after his donation, that school was christened Dangote Business School.

The business mogul further disclosed that talks are on to affiliate the school with the popular Harvard Business School, in the United States of America. Waaaaaaal! How nice!

He also said that no effort should be spared to ensure that the school, building gate was up to international standard and one of the biggest in the sub-Saharan Africa.

Can HH and GBM learn anything from this Nigerian business magnate and donate to NRDC for starters? I am not kidding!Would it not be delightful to have Hakainde Hichilema Business School at UNZA or GBM School of Medicine at CBU?
