Motorists fume over ‘dilapidated’ Lumumba Road
By AARON CHIYANZO and CHIKUMBI KATEBE MOTORISTS are angered by the dilapidated state of Lumumba road in Lusaka which has continued to be in a worrisome state.
They have described the inertia so far exhibited by the Road Development Agency (RDA) as a mockery of the Zambian people.
Capital Buses proprietor Ishmael Kankara called on government to order the contractor to move on site and begin road works immediately instead of waiting for rains to finish.
“Unlike other roads across the country which have potholes, what Lumumba road has are ditches and it’s not right,” an irate motorist lamented. Peter Mubanga, of Matero Township said that RDA was fooling motorists with shoddy works continually being done on the road as a short-term measure.
Mr Mubanga complained that pure sand was being used to fill up ditches on the road but was being easily washed away by the rain. He reiterated that the shoddy works being done on the road on a daily basis were extremely annoying and making government unpopular.
Mr Mubanga stressed the need for sustainable shortterm measures even as government was still looking for funds to fully work on the road.
Meanwhile, Mr Kankara said it has become inevitable for the Government to just call upon the contractor to move on site and begin road works immediately instead of waiting for rains to finish.
He explained that with all the interventions put in place by the Road Development Agency (RDA), it was evident there was nothing more to be done in the interim but just start the major road works.
