MUNDA Wanga Sanctuary and Botanical Gardens is one of the country’s major projects that has the capacity to grow tourism in Zambia, says Ministry of Tourism and Arts permanent Secretary Howard.

Speaking when he toured the sanctuary yesterday, he said once Munda Wanga was worked on, the facility would become more helpful for educational purposes, recreaction and many other ways beneficial to the public. Reverend Sikwela called on the public to take time off such as during the long weekend to relax at the sanctuary with their families.

“I implore the general public to take the time off away from home on long weekends like this one to visit the place and have an educational and relaxing moment with families at the park”. said Rev.Sikwela. Munga Wanga comprises of a wildlife sanctuary and botanical gardens and is mainly used for conservation education.

Located in Chilanga, the Botanical Garden was first opened to the public in 1956 And In 2017, 95, 580 people had visited the park and the government realised K1, 911,228 through gate fees at the park.

Munda Wanga was on a 25 year lease to a private trust but was repossessed after Government terminated the lease agreement in 2014 and handed it over the then Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA). This was because the trust breached several conditions of the lease.
