- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

TWO foreign-registered trucks loaded with illegally harvested Mukula logs were on Thursday intercepted by the public at a local oil marketing company in Lusaka.

Alert members of the public tipped the police on suspicion that the strange foreign registered trucks were carrying Mukula logs.

A source told the Daily Nation that the workers at a local oil makerting company became suspicious after noticing the foreign trucks in their workshop.

“What happened is that we got suspicious when we saw the foreign trucks which looked strange in our workshop and when we tried to enquire, we discovered that they were loaded with Mukula logs in readiness for illegal importation and that’s when we went to report to the police who came with the Lusaka District Commissioner.

“In fact, these trucks were three at first but when we came back for work the following day, we found that the other one had disappeared. When the police and the DC came they found the two and upon searching they found that they were loaded with Mukula logs and that’s when they brought in the police officers to be guarding the premises,” an insider said.

The source, “it is not even an issue of suspecting because we were there when the police opened the containers which were full of Mukula logs.”

But the Daily Nation that rushed to the oil marketing company in the heavy industrial area were not allowed entry.

The security officers found at the gate said, “We have been instructed not to allow anyone to enter this place, and please just go back because you will just land us in problems.”

The foreign trucks are parked at the oil marketing company premises.
