Political activist cautions on divisions

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

REPORTS suggesting that some Cabinet Ministers have taken offence over the Lamba Chiefs’ close association with former Copperbelt Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo should be thoroughly probed, says political activist, David Kapoma

Mr. Kapoma told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that he was dismayed that even after being transferred to Lusaka, there were Ministers who still had “unfinished business” with Mr. Lusambo over his close ties with traditional leaders.

He called on President Lungu to intervene in the matter by correcting the simmering differences within his Government to enhance peace and harmony even at party level.

“We are extremely concerned that there are some purported wrangles among Members of Parliament because we understand that one of the Ministers was on the Copperbelt not long ago asking the Lamba Chiefs what they meant when they said they were missing the services of Mr. Lusambo but I think this is the kind of politics which is not working well for us, especially the youths,

“If Mr. Lusambo had a good working relationship with Lamba Chiefs that should be a plus on the party and to create an issue out of this simply shows pettiness,” Mr. Kapoma said.

He said it was disappointing that the youthful MPs who were supposed to be an example to the new generation of politicians by bringing a new lease of life on the political arena through issue-based politics were now the ones engaging in petty politics.

“MPs and ministers need to be sober in the way they discharge their duties and focus on delivering to the Zambian people by fostering development at any level.

“Our only hope is that Mr. Lusambo will not be distracted by such unnecessary attacks because people are in dire need of development,” he added.
