CEC donates vehicle to police post
By ROGERS KALERO COPPERBELT Energy Corporation (CEC) has donated a motor vehicle to Garnatone police post valued at K90, 000,000.
CEC managing director Owen Silavwe said that the donation was meant to help police fight crime whose task needed concerted efforts.
“We shall play a vital role in fighting crime and maintenance of public peace through providing relevant logistics that will help security personnel to carry out their operations,” said Mr Silavwe
Mr Silavwe said CEC made the donation because of the challenges police officers were facing in their operations.
“Security is vital for any development to take place in the area. So as CEC, we do believe that safety and security are cause to wider peace and developmental goals, thus any business entity or indeed individuals would be more inclined or set up a business in an area where they are secured of peace,” Mr Silavwe said.
And speaking later, Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said Government was grateful that some members of the private sector were supportive in fighting crime and improving the operations in various sectors.
Mr Mpundu, however urged the Police and residents to guard the donated vehicle jealously because it had been procured at a huge cost.
And in response to concerns raised by Kitwe District Police Commanding Officer Edwin Chiisi over the housing challenges the police post had continued to face, Mr Mpundu said Government had noted the challenges police officers at Garnatone police post had been facing.
“I have noted with concern that Garnatone police post has been going through a lot of challenges as mentioned by the commanding officer, Government has not given you a blind eye to the challenges the police post has been facing. Government has embarked on the construction of a modern police station and housing units for officers,” Mr Mpundu said.
