Luanshya Mayor counsels youths
YOUTHS must realise that they are the architects of the developmental agenda of this country hence the need for them to take responsibility for whatever
they do to better their lives, says Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda.
Mr Chanda said youths should not waste time abusing social media to insult leaders
Speaking ahead of today’s Youth Day celebrations, Mr. Chanda noted that such celebrations must not be taken as business as usual but time to reflect on what the youths could do for themselves and the country.
He noted that discipline, determination, and concentration on education was an equaliser envisaged in improved personal and national development.
He implored the youths not to ask what the Government could do for them but what they could to contribute to the development of the country.
“As we celebrate the 2018 national youth day, I would like to take this great opportunity to urge my fellow youths to remain responsible and contribute to the development of our country,
“It is a time for the youths to stand up and be counted. It should not always be the parading only, but let us make this youth day a unique one and show the nation that we can positively contribute to the growth of Zambia and the World at large as future leaders of today and tomorrow,” he said
Mr Chanda called on the youths to be disciplined, focused and determined, hardworking and to concentrate on education because it was the key to success.
He said there was need for the youths to use social media responsibly by embracing technological advancement to better their lives.
He observed that most youths had to access Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Imo and WhatsApp and that those applications should be embraced, expanded, widely popularized and used progressively in creating opportunities for social and economic development among the youths.
“In the recent past, we have seen an increase in the abuse of ICTs which is not adding any value to our lives. We need to take advantage of the global village by using social media for its intended purposes. We can use social media to create ideas and show our talents to the nation,” he said
