Justice Chali eulogised
DEPUTY Chief Justice Marvin Mwanamwambwa says the death of Mr Justice Isaac Chali has robbed the judiciary of a great pillar of justice.
Mr Justice Chali died on Friday last week at Care for Business Hospital in Lusaka after suffering a cardiac failure and leaves behind four children.
Speaking at the Valedictory session at the Kitwe High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Mwanamwambwa said the late judge contributed to the development and administration of the judicial system in Zambia.
He said Mr Justice Chali held various positions of responsibility because of his hard work. He served as Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) vice chairman in 1991 and became chairman in 1994.
He also served as part time High Court Commissioner and was later appointed High Court judge in March 2010 in Kitwe. He was transferred to Lusaka.
Mr Justice Chali was appointed as judge in charge of Kitwe High Court in May 2016, a position he held till his death.
Mr Justice Mwanamwambwa said Justice Chali joined the judiciary at the age of 58 and quickly adapted and was a believer in efficiency. He was humble and cordial with everyone.
Attorney-General Likando Kalaluka said the rise in heart diseases for members of the judiciary was worrying.
Mr Kalaluka urged all legal practitioners to undertake regular medical check- ups to preserve personal health.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has urged young lawyers to emulate the legacy of the late Mr Justice Isaac Chali.
In an interview Mr Chanda said President Edgar Lungu noted that Mr Justice Chali led an exemplary life especially in the quest to improve the delivery of justice.
Mr Chanda said Justice Chali's dignified send-off signified his character of a perfectionist.
