Fear grips UPND over 2021 – Njovu

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

THE UPND is too scared of President Edgar Lungu to contest the 2021 general elections because the ruling party is fulfilling its promises so has instead resorted to desperate measures such as calling for his impeachment, says Patriotic Front die hard McFallen Njovu.

Mr Njovu said the UPND had realised that the 2021 general elections would not be easy for them because of the PF’s unprecedented development projects such as roads, schools, clinics and hospitals the government had put up.

He said the impeachment calls would be futile as the party had more MPs as well as those from the MMD alliance.

Mr Njovu said although some projects were slow to take shape such as universities in the provinces the fact was that they had started and would be completed.

In an interview at the weekend, Mr Njovu a local businessman said the zeal brought about by PF secretary general Davis Mwila to mobilise the party and the massive defections seen from NDC, FDD and the UPND had made the PF stronger than ever before.

He said because of taking development to all corners of Zambia, the party was being welcomed to mobilise members in all the areas which included perceived opposition strongholds such as Dundumwenzi.

‘‘The UPND is gripped with fear and is too scared of President Edgar Lungu to stand for the 2021 general elections because the PF is keeping its campaign promises, this is why they plan to advocate for his impeachment through Parliament,’’ he said.

He observed that the PF were working as if elections would take place tomorrow and that the party was not relaxed.

Mr Njovu said it was surprising that the UPND was protesting the printing of ballot papers locally when it had equally raised fears of electoral malpractice when the 2016 ballot papers were printed abroad but that their representatives would be present at every stage of the process.
