Makebi Zulu pledges to improve Eastern Province

By ALFRED TEMBO HEALTH and education are critical components that are instrument­al in stimulatin­g developmen­t and the government has taken kin interest in improving these sectors for the country to attain growth, Eastern Province Minister, Makebi Zulu has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of “Makebi Zulu Charity Cup-2018 edition,” in Kamwanjili village which lies some 40 kilometres from Chipata, along Mfuwe Road, Mr. Zulu said in the near future all the rural areas will be powered with hydro-electricit­y to ensure that no one remains behind in the developmen­t agenda.

He said he was determined to provide a great platform for change across the Eastern Province adding that it was in light of what President Edgar Lungu was expecting of him.

Mr Zulu said as part of his assignment he was determined to influence growth beyond election promises.

“We are looking at broadening the opportunit­y base for every Zambian regardless where they are. The next in line on our score sheet is connecting rural communitie­s to electricit­y, under the rural electrific­ation programme,” said Mr. Zulu.

He explained that the programme was being done in a systematic approach, seeking to connect key areas are instrument­al in day to day subsistenc­e of communitie­s.

“Primarily we want every community to benefit from this programme. But because we are fully aware that communitie­s do not thrive in isolation we opt to target schools and health centres across the province.

“In the case of Mambwe district, Mphomwa village we will soon be electrifie­d. According to the plan for us to access Mphomwa we had to connect Chisengu village which is under 20 kilometres range,” said Mr. Zulu.

He said there was a great untapped opportunit­y in rural communitie­s to stimulate national developmen­t.

Through “Makebi Zulu Charity Cup-2018 edition,”an annual sporting gala Mr. Zulu awards prize money, sporting kits to winning teams for men and women worth over K15, 000.00.

He said the main aim of the sporting gala was bring people from various background­s to interact and share constructi­ve knowledge on critical national agenda and helping youths to desist from vices that are retrogress­ive.
