ZRA installs over 300 tax capturing devices

By BUUMBA CHIMBULU OVER 300 Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) to improve domestic resource mobilisati­on by monitoring all transactio­ns which attract Value Added Tax (VAT) in shops have been installed in Lusaka by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

According to ZRA corporate communicat­ions manager, Topsy Sikalinda, the implementa­tion process of EFDs was going on well.

Mr. Sikalinda said in an interview that over 300 EFDs had so far been installed in some areas in Lusaka such as Kamwala shopping centre.

“The process for the fiscal devices is going on well. Right now we are still rolling out and so far we have rolled out more than 300 devices that have been installed in Lusaka in Kamwala, so far so good. We are targeting to roll out about 2,000 in the pilot phases,” he said.

Mr. Sikalinda said that ZRA would next week engage the Ndola Chamber of Commerce on sensitisat­ion of the devices.

He explained that the authority would then engage the Lu- saka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on the same programme.

Recently, Mr. Sikalinda said that ZRA was at the same time training traders on how to use the gadgets.

He said ZRA had so far trained over 600 traders from Lusaka and Copperbelt.

“So far, over 600 traders have been trained on how to use the gadgets. That is for Lusaka and Copperbelt and we will continue training more. We have also started giving out the devices for the pilot phase in Lusaka and Copperbelt,

“We have to start training as we give out the devices, we also give them full support in this period so that they are aware of the process, we are there to guide them on the ensure system to make sure they are comfortabl­e with it,” Mr. Sikalinda said.
