Mutati challenges Zambian accountants
By BUUMBA CHIMBULU ASSOCIATION of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Global Advocate Award winner, Felix Mutati, has challenged Zambian accountants to make practical contributions meant to create a fair and equitable tax system in the country.
Mr. Mutati, who is Minister of Works and Supply believes that accountants’ competence was how to assist Government on how to create an economy that would rest on a fair and equitable tax system as the engine to improve compliance.
“Within the Zambian circumstances, we are beginning to narrow the deficit of qualified accountants, today we can boast of over 3,000 qualified accountants and tones of thousands of technicians promoting the quality of financial reporting and control expenditure which is critically important,
“We will be looking towards you to support and make practical contributions particularly to the reform agenda we have embarked on,” he said.
The Minister was speaking yesterday when the ACCA Zambian team welcomed him at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from the United Kingdom where he went to receive the award.
Mr. Mutati also said he would be available to offer support to ACCA Zambia whenever needed.
He said he was humbled to win the award and for being a member of ACCA which believed in core strong values.
Meanwhile, head of ACCA Zambia, Mukaba Mukaba, said the team was delighted to have a member with such abilities of wining such an award.
Mr. Mukaba explained that the award was as a result of Mr. Community advocacy and hard work.
“ACCA Zambia is happy that a senior member was recognised globally. This is the first of our members to receive this award,” he said.
And ACCA Zambia chairman for members’ network, Sean Mukelabai, said the team would be calling on the minister for several events for assistance.
