Nkana players confident of CAF progress

NKANA Football Club players have reaffirmed their commitment to help their team progress to the group stages of the 2018 CAF Confederations Cup despite having lost the first leg of the pre group stage fixture 3-0 to Belouizdad FC of Algeria.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Nation Sports, club captain Joseph Musonda said the Kitwe giants were determined to overturn the 3-0 defeat suffered in Algeria a week ago.

Musonda added that the 4-3 victory over Zesco United in the Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield final last Saturday at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium has motivated “Kalampa” ahead of this Saturdays CAF Confederations Cup, second leg clash against Belouizdad FC of Algeria.“Zesco is a big team but we managed to beat them after working hard thanks to our coach who inspired us not to give up in the second half

“We proved that we can score goals. We lost away because our opponents used home ground advantage and managed to score the three goals, even us we can score considering that we will be playing at home,” Musonda said.

And Nkana vice-captain Ronald ‘Kampamba’ who scored a brace in Nkana’s thumping of Zesco United noted that Kalampa was geared to cancel the 3-0 defeat suffered in Algeria.

Kampamba said Kalampa would prepare adequately for the second leg fixture to stand a chance of progressing to the group stage of the CAF confederations cup.

I thank God for winning this Charity Shield. I have played against Zesco on three occasions and lost twice but we have beaten them this time around and it feels good,”

“Now we are preparing very well for the return leg fixture against the Algeria as you know anything is possible in football. We can overturn the 3-0 defeat,” Sate said.

Meanwhile, former Zesco United top man Idris Mbombo said it is possible for the Kitwe giants to overturn the 3-0 defeat but noted that it is not going to be easy when Nkana host the Algerian giants next Saturday.

“It will not be easy but we will try our best and qualify to the group stages. It’s possible Barcelona lost four nil to PSG but went on to beat the French side 6-1. We scored four goals against Zesco which is a big team therefore we can’t fail to score four goals,” Mbombo said.

Nkana will on Saturday host Belouizdad FC in the second leg fixture at Nkoloma Stadium with the winner progressing to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.
